Course Overview

 

This course will provide you with a fully comprehensive education within both LASER and IPL treatments. This advanced course specializes in reducing hair growth and photo rejuvenation of the skin using intense light and laser treatments. 

Throughout this qualification, you will develop an understanding of managing safe working practice and how to identify and control hazards. Being trained in a clinical environment on real patients will ensure you leave confident and fully capable of carrying out safe and effective treatments.  

Training is held in small groups and during your clinical practice you will be assessed on your occupational competence.

Course Syllabus

This course will provide you with:- 

  • Core Knowledge of electromagnetic spectrum; photons, light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation (LASER) and intense pulsed light (IPL).
  • The difference between LASER and IPL light therapy, and methods of applications for hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments.
  • Recap of the anatomy and physiology of integumentary, endocrine, circulatory and lymphatic system in relation to light therapy treatments. (Please note that the Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology qualification is prerequisite to this unit)
  • How to prepare and demonstrate LASER and IPL treatments including: preparation of the therapist, client, working area, full consultation, tissue analysis & fitzpatrick scale, contraindications, aftercare advice, clinical outcome, clinical side effects, full treatment protocol, recording and evaluation of the treatment – all in compliance with LASER and IPL local rules and legislations procedure.
  • How to perform hair removal treatments using IPL and LASER for all areas of the body; setting correct parameters for the hair type and colour on different skin types.
  • Ensure you understand the industry requirements when carrying out these treatments such as Laser protocols, the role of Laser Safety Officers and insurance requirements. 

Assessment is achieved through assignments, observations and internal test paper and case studies.

The Core of Knowledge Course is an essential requirement for those using Lasers or IPL machines in regulated settings and in some Local Authority licensing schemes. We would advise you to attend a refresher training on Core of Knowledge every 3-5 years.

Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

 

This qualification is part of a suite of Education and Training qualifications incorporate the new qualifications that replace the Level 3 Award in Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS).

The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers. All candidates must have access to 100 hours of teaching and there must be a minimum of eight observations of practice, totalling a minimum of eight hours.

Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will take an analytical and practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, candidates will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice. Candidates will also carry out research into professionalism in education and training policies and consider their impact on their role and their accountability as a teacher/trainer. Candidates will also have the opportunity to contribute to quality improvement and quality assurance within their own organisation. 

Assessment

Assessment is portfolio based through varied coursework assignments, essays, group and individual presentations, reflective practice, 8 observed teaching sessions and a professional development portfolio. 

Entry requirements

Learners must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Reading and communication skills should be adequate to meet the requirements of the training.
  • Do not have a criminal background which prevents them working, with young people or vulnerable adults, as a teacher
  • Hold a relevant qualification at a level above that of their learners; ideally at least Level 3 in their area of specialism
  • Minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT
  • Access to 100 hours teaching practice whilst on the course

Progression routes

Teachers can then progress with their professional development by working towards QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills). Many previous students’ progress BA Degree programmes such as the BA (Hons) Education and Professional Development.

Course Overview

The Certificate for the Children & Young People’s Workforce - Level 2 Course is designed for students who are wanting to work in the child care sector in a supervised capacity. Anyone wishing to embark on a career in child care will benefit and it provides a starting point to the formal qualifications required to work in the sector. It provides an ideal route into a career in child care and results in a fully recognised qualification which enables students to work competently in a supervised capacity. 

 

Work Placement Requirements: Because this is a competence based qualification, students will need to have a placement in a child care setting in which to gather evidence of skills and learning, and you will need to nominate a workplace supervisor who will oversee your practical evidence gathering. The nominated person could be someone with a management qualification or anyone with a level 3 childcare qualification who is licensed to work unsupervised in a nursery. It is recommended that students have a work placement for the duration of their studies. This could be a full time position or a voluntary position of 1 or 2 mornings, afternoons or days per week.

Achievement of the qualification requires a minimum of 350 hours of work experience. Learners who have no previous experience of working with children are recommended to spend at least 400 hours in a real work environment.

As the qualification covers working with children from birth to 5 years old; therefore, learners must have gain experience of working with children across age ranges of:

  • birth to 1 year and 11 months
  • 2 years to 2 years 11 months
  • 3 to 5 years.

Learners who are already working within the children’s workforce will be able to use their ongoing experience in their work environment to enable them to achieve the skills and competences required. Written assignments, group discussions and presentations will also be used as assessment methods.

 

Entry Requirements

The qualification is suitable for learners of 16 years of age and above.

There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have a minimum of level two in

Literacy and numeracy or equivalent. There is not a requirement for learners to have GCSE grades A*–C in English and maths prior to commencing this qualification however learners should be aware that this is required to attain Early Years Educator status.
